Here’s the recap for Season 11 Episode 3, “Surprise Me”, of Project Runway on Lifetime!
For this challenge, the opinionated and ALWAYS FABULOUS, Heidi Klum is the one that needs impressing! This week, teams will design a look to go along with the launch of her new fragrance, “Surprise”. The outfit will be worn in the commercial for the fragrance and for the PR events. Each team must create 4 options for the TV and print ads and 2 options for the PR events. There will be two winning looks, one for TV and one for the PR events. Heidi provides the team with a box of “surprises”. She shares the storyboard for the commercial, a photo book, and her fragrance itself. She suggests staying in the color scheme of the perfume (pink, gold, and black). Each team will have a $1200 budget to use to shop at Mood. There is only one day for designing, so the teams need to work REAL FAST!

As the teams are sketching their ideas, Team Keeping It Real (KIR) quickly realize that they need to pair up because of the number of looks they have to design. Layana and Kate and Joe and Amanda from Team KIR pair off. From Dream Team, Matt and Michelle pair off for the press event outfits and everyone else will work on campaign pieces.
Off the bat, Joe and Amanda are having difficulty coming to an agreement because they both come from VERY different backgrounds! UHOH! After hours of trouble, Joe comes up with an AWESOME design that both designers are excited about. Kate and Layana are questioning their design and can’t convince each other of the others ideas.
Here is this week’s “Designer Update”: Ben is still SOOOOO annoying! 
However, we learn that he was involved in an emotionally abusive relationship, that causes him to have lots of self-doubt (We will give him THIS week off from ranking on him). On the other hand, Cindy is STILL such a precious, little gem! She is too friggin CUTE! Water Lily can’t stop elaborating on EVERY detail (when she speaks and designs). But, she did “save” Daniel’s design by lending him a piece of leather he needed for his dress. Obvs, Daniel is STILL a BEAST (kill’ the competition).
This Week’s Judges
The guest judge this week is KRISTIN (What’s she been up to since Sex and The City??) DAVIS. So….Let the judging being! As the looks come down the runway, it seems that Team KIR has some AMAZING looks. Richard’s look, however is a MESS! The girl looks like she’s pooping out a tail of feathers. Stanley’s model is wearing 27 necklaces (or so it seems). As the team’s looks come out at the end, the dresses look FANTASTIC! Dream Team has an interesting mix of designs, but nothing makes me say, WINNER! Ben’s dress is practically falling off the model’s bust line, so it looks all sorts of a hot mess!
The judges score the designs as they come down the runway and once they tally their scores, the winning team is…..Team KIR AGAIN!

Daniel
Daniel went for a “Bond Girl” look. Heidi loves the simple lines and thinks its sophisticated. Kristin loves the flattering, powerful structure. Nina doesn’t LOVE the material for evening wear, but thinks it’s a great shape. Zac isn’t a fan of the nude-flesh color for an advertisement, but thinks it is well done!
Patricia
Nina really likes this look. It’s interesting to wear on the red carpet. Zac loves that she is making a signature out of her fabric techniques. Heidi thinks there is a great “surprise” in this. Kristin isn’t sure if it is the MOST flattering.
Layana and Kate
Heidi loves the softness and hardness using the technique. Zac likes the dimension and shadow, but is concerned about the color. Nina loves the movement. Kristin loves the pink peeking underneath; it is very ballet.

Matt
Zac doesn’t see the relation to the fragrance. He doesn’t hate the fabric choices, but definitely HATES the trashy strap around her neck. Heidi wanted hard and soft, but all Nina and Heidi see are a dominatrix! TOO MUCH SEXY! Kristin says she would die if someone asked her to wear this piece.
Cindy
“Grammy” Cindy is down at the bottom again, even after she changed up her style and created a bright pink cocktail dress
Heidi doesn’t see “sexy”. Zac and Nina think its scary and cheap. The iridescent fabric is hideous and doesn’t photograph well. Kristin can relate to the neckline, but ten years ago on Sex and the City!
Benjamin
Ben is in the bottom yet AGAIN. Boo HOO (NOT!) #BenFTL
Kristin loves the color; hates the painful breast. Heidi and Zac hate the “mushy, sad boobs”. Nina says it’s probably the WORST construction she’s ever seen (Someone call for help)! Zac tells him to let the excuses go; it’s too much to always have a reason for failure (THANK YOU ZAC)!
Final Results:
Winner- Kate’s (and Layana’s) dress will be worn in Heidi’s campaign for her new fragrance, “Surprise”.
Daniel’s design will be worn at the press event. WOOHOO!

In closing, here are my final thoughts:
The Dream Team needs to abandon ship because they are sinking REAL FAST! I sort of hope they change it up next week and switch the teams around a bit. Ben is still my pick to go next week, if he can survive his emotions until then. As for Team KIR, I am officially OBSESSED with Daniel’s mustache and hope it gets its own runway show! (I smell a SPIN OFF!)
The previews for next week’s episode show some hardware and flowers as materials. Ben STILL looks insane! Another week….will he survive? (fingers crossed that he doesn’t).
